People Sleep in the Student Center. A LOT. →
devil-may-care: here’s proof Smartest idea for a Tumblr Blog yet.  After five years there as both an undergrad student and a grad student, I’ve seen my fair share of nappers on campus.  However, I can’t imagine ever actually falling asleep in public.  I couldn’t do it.

sherlocksimplywalksintomordor: tardis-youre-drunk: thesherlockfandomisbroken: ivetrulyoutgayedmyself: I’m sorry, but new books smell amazing too. Just saying. Hell, let’s just sniff ALL THE BOOKS they’re basically like crack for nerds. Only better for you. I thought I was the only one who loves to smell books. I had a person the other day tell me I smelled like books, and I...

Comics in the Classroom →
We have TONS of comics in Special Collections, where I work, and although I have a long way to go before I can consider myself anything remotely like an expert, I can still give you some good recommendations, so come see me sometime and I can teach you how comics can help illustrate history, sociology, psychology, politics, and a myriad of other issues and subjects

Carolyn Hax and Public Libraries
The text below came from an e-mail I just received via a list-serv I subscribe to.  The librarian who wrote it works in the same campus library as I do, and she’s a great mentor.  I don’t know who Carolyn Hax is, but her shout-out to public libraries was great!  I hope a lot of people read her chat today and it made them a bit more appreciative of great public libraries. I will...

Been watching my e-mail like a hawk all...
Just a quick note to let you know that the Committee finished up it’s assessments a bit early, and we’d like to congratulate you on your successful completion of the Comprehensive Examinations! I will be sending out a more formal letter in the regular mail later next week.  Pending the completion of all the University requirements you will be recommended for graduation. ...

My post of the time machine in the Mandel Library...
libraryjournal: josephfm: LIBRARY JOURNAL, you guys!!! I can’t take ANY credit for this, though. I’m just an observer of how totally, amazingly awesome the children’s librarians in West Palm Beach are.  Anyway, you can check out some more shots of the library’s Blast Off For Summer Reading Time Travel Machine (the official name) and of its visit to 1850s California at the library’s...

Summer Welcome
t-reyrex: Was a big success. I have my schedule complete. An Honors English course, and Honors discussion course that meets once a week over Sherlock Holmes, and FOUR MUSIC THEORY CLASSES. I love life. Also, Taylor and I were able to find the absolutely perfect apartment. It’s not super big, but it’s in a gorgeous area and relatively cheap. I’m so excited :D There’s a freakin’...

True To Mizzou: Steer Runs Wild on Campus, Shot... →
truetomizzou: Sounds crazy, but this is Missouri. A 1,300 pound steer ran circles on campus this morning after it escaped near the College of Agriculture Natural Resources abattoir. A privately owned steer, the animal was shot twice in a residences’ backyard on east campus after it sent police on a wild goose… And this is where I live folks!  Never a dull moment at Mizzou.

Rare book's theft a symptom of 'Mormonia' →
shrinkinglibrarian: “On Tuesday, federal marshals barreled into a condominium in Herndon, Va., and found a most unusual book: a leather-bound first edition of the Book of Mormon. They also found the man who allegedly pilfered the prized tome - worth between $50,000 and $100,000 - from a suburban Phoenix antique book shop, authorities said. … The theft and arrest spotlighted the market for...

Well, now I sit back and wait....
Comps are over.  Seriously, that was just about the most stress-filled week of my life.  However, life is back to normal and I signed up for a 14 day free trial at Ancestry.com because I have been dying to learn more about my dad’s side of the family.  Also, my maternal grandfather’s side of the family is still a little hazy in certain areas.  We’re not even certain which country...

on Tumblr, I like to see posts about books, libraries, Britain, intelligent and funny actors, local university stuff, and the sort.  I DO NOT like to see pictures of boobs or cleavage, but there were two posts, almost back to back, from two separate blogs.  I’m a girl, which means I have a set of my own, and other girls’ don’t fascinate me.  I looked to see who I am following...

Three down.....
So, I spent far more time editing three of my papers before submitting them, but they are at least submitted now.  Taking a short Tumblr break, then getting a really late lunch, and then working on my last paper, which I hope will be a lot easier to write than the previous three.  Sorry I’m not posting much on Tumblr right now, but soon this nightmare week will be over and then I can sit...

libraryadvocates: histrionicintrovert: Can I just point out that public libraries remain humanity’s greatest invention to this day? I mean, combine harvesters and water-filtration plants and Advil are wonderful things I would not want to live without, but libraries have free books. FREE BOOKS I mean what could compare? There are so many good posts to re-tumbl this Friday.

Sydney's 24 hour Library
georgetteherald: Click Through to see article Alright, that’s it.  I’m moving to Australia.  Oh, but wait, isn’t Sydney something like the most expensive city to live in?  Far more expensive than even NYC, London, or Paris?  Hmmm….may have to think this through a bit more.

Hi New Followers!
So I’ve gotten about another ten or so followers the past few days and I wanted to greet all of you and thank you for following me! This is my main blog, but only one of three that I currently work on in my spare time.  My second is the perfect blog for everyone who loves Britain, especially talented, nice-looking British actors.  I’m talking David Tennant, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict...

Such Bad News
Oh, I got really bad news about my upcoming graduate assistantship.  I don’t have a lot of time to explain now, but it seems that I may be forced to graduate in December and won’t be able to stay around to finish that Graduate Certificate in Higher Education that I was just accepted and enrolled into last week.  Stupid red tape!  Of course, I could stay and do the certificate and...

youtastelikenachos: Oh my god that Forbes Magazine article on MLS being the worst degree for jobs? That is because half of the people in library school are there because they saw a library-themed Anthropologie photoshoot in a catalog and thought it would be cool and quirky to become a librarian because they like knitting. SORRY I’M SUCH A SASSAFRASS but you should only go to library school if...

The Best And Worst Master's Degrees For Jobs →
justanotherqueerlibrarystudent: infoneer-pulse: Getting a master’s in library and information science, English, music, or education can be extremely gratifying but pricy. Median mid-career median pay for all those degrees is under $63,000, and employment for them isn’t expected to grow significantly over the next few years. Library and information science degree-holders bring in $57,600...

Bibliometrics Paper
So, after reading everything I can on bibliometrics yesterday, I think I have an idea of what I’m going to write about.  I’m supposed to come up with a scenario in which a project in bibliometrics will help solve a problem.  I figure in this case, I should write what I know.  How about using citation analysis to discover which journals are most cited in papers and books published by...

Bibliometrics
Working on figuring out my third of four papers I’m writing for my Comprehensive Exams and I know next to nothing about bibliometrics. I’m supposed to come up with a problem or question in a particular type of library of my choosing and explain how bibliometrics can help. I was thinking about using an academic branch library like a math library as a setting. Perhaps I can use...
